First UCI Win at Beacon Cross

Cyclingnews.com race report.
Today was the Beacon cross UCI race in Bridgeton, NJ. "Amphitheater of Pain" and "The Beach" were true to their names and were deciding factors. I was sitting on Frattini and Sundt feeling good, but not sure how those two were feeling so I just chilled. It seemed like Sundt was fast on the flats, but lacked the high end on the two runs and Frattini had a poker face, but didn't seem to be working too hard. I accelerated through the technical part and dropped Sundt half way through. I let Frattini pull a few times but it seemed like I could go faster so I took control. Shortly after, Frattini flatted close to the pits and I was able to get a good gap. He had a really fast bike change and all of sudden was coming back to me, but was never able to get closer than 5 seconds. I had it pinned in the red zone for 3 laps holding a 5 second lead, my running and dismounts felt strong and smooth and I even had an extra gear on the flats to hold him off. It was definitely a challenging course and with Sundt and Frattini only seconds behind made it a pretty tense race. I couldn't believe I held them off after I crossed the line, I was surprised at taking my first win at a UCI event with those guys there but it's been a long time coming and I'm excited to finally brake through for a big win.
Tomorrow I fly home and get back on the mountain bike for one last time, I'm really looking forward to a relaxed drive to Michigan this weekend as opposed to 5 lanes at 85mph on I95 deathway like the last few weeks.
