Time Warp

It has been confirmed on Chanel 12 News, We are on day number 13 of no sun.

I was over at work today when Spiro pulled out the dusty box of old Winning magazines. The cool part of this mag is it has results from all the major races listed in the back so you can see who was winning just about any race in the US at any particular time. Bobby Julich was about 17 in some pictures while Lance isn't even mentioned in the top tour riders in this magazine! It's pretty funny reading about how Lance or Hincapie could be a tour contender as new up and coming riders.

I believe this picture came out of a 1992 magazine...

You wouldn't believe me if I said Jan Ullrich, 18 time tour runner up, raced cross as a JR so I brought the proof, checkout 5th place below. And who was the top Amateur - Frischy

Toe straps in cross??? Oh yeah, I forgot that 15 years ago while I was still sitting in a booster chair that they didn't have clipless. How on earth do you race cross with toe straps?? And yes, that is snow they are racing in and the guy on the left is wearing your dads old tube socks.
Kinda looks like Jonathan Page in the middle doesn't it?

This issue is a bit newer, 1995 to be exact and yes, Tinker Juarez was on just about every other page in the book scaring people with those nasty dreads.

I've heard Brian Matter mention a NORBA in Michigan, how old are you Brian?

And then ther was Lance. I forgot the year of this issue, maybe 94. I was just getting into cycling when Lance rode for Motorola. I had a motorola poster hanging on my wall for the longest time, I wonder what happend to it?

Davis Phinny, I couldn't even tell you anything about this guy except that I've heard the name and I think he was fast. I was 9 when this issue came out

Maybe I'll try and find some Greg Lemond stuff next time I'm there and I'll get the super scary 1990 shot of Roberto Gaggioli helmetless, with the biggest hair you've ever seen. Good stuff!

Nice write up. Your blog kicks ass. It seems that some people all they want to talk about is how far they rode, avg heart rate, how many hours they trained this week. and who they beat on the group rides. Who cares??? Keep it real!
