Today we rode over to the course for the first preview of what is to come. This big windmill is in the center of a roundabout near the trainstation and can be seen for quit a ways. I was really hoping to see one before we left so this might be it.
The course itself 95% set up with blue fencing the entire length and in some parts there is another rope fence built about a foot out to keep people from getting too close. We were not allowed on the course, but we walked and talked lots of it. Shall we say it is um, tricky.
There are at least three euro "shoots" that are possibly death defying if taken at the wrong angle as they push you to the inside at roughly a 45 degree angle as the course turns the opposite direction. Nasty. If it looks like it really couldn't be that steep in the picture below, believe me, it is. It's also off camber towards us, so it's not even straight down. No guts, no glory.
Currently the ground is completely saturated and if hadn't frosted last night, you'd sink in to your ankles. It is supposed to stay cold the remainder of the week which will help somewhat, but it's pretty much a given that once the woman and jrs race on Saturday and Sunday that there will be no remaining dry ground and will turn into another race like last week.
If your getting as excited as I am for this, here's a little video clip from the world cup last weekend that's pretty rad, check it out. Carnage.

There are four steep run ups like this one, but this is the most technical as you only have about 5 meters to remount before blasting down the other side. This is actually an over under meaning the course also goes through beneath.
The backside is very similar to the front with two more shoots and two more step run ups, another bridge and what appears to be a very muddy field section that will probably eat people if you fall in.

Last year at the world cup here they were doing 10 minute laps which is pretty long. I really like the course, it' probably going to be the most technical race I've ever done, but with the speed being slower because of mud the technical sections won't come up on you as fast as when it's dry so might change a bit. Overall it was pretty cool to see everything laid out already without tons of people being around. It's going to be amazing when there are people three deep the entire length of the blue netting, it's going to be crazy!
